Abstract

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, thousands of people have been killed, millions displaced, and significant destruction of property, the natural environment, and cultural heritage has occurred. Ukrainian archaeologists and the international community have attempted to monitor the damage to Ukraine’s environment and cultural heritage through the use of remote sensing technology. In this article, the results of a survey of Second World War archaeology located in the occupied area of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast using open access remote sensing technologies will be presented. The article will demonstrate that locations that were tactically important in the Second World War, remain so today.
